Linda A. Lacewell currently serves as Superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services also known as DFS.
As Superintendent she oversees and regulates the activities of approximately 1,500 bank and non-bank financial institutions, and more than 1,400 insurance companies, totaling $7.3 trillion in assets. This includes many fintech companies, such as those licensed as money transmitters, licensed lenders, or virtual currency companies.
Prior to this role, she served in various leadership capacities in the Office of Governor of Andrew M. Cuomo, including Chief of Staff and Counselor to the Governor and Chief Risk Officer. Superintendent Lacewell was also a senior member of then Attorney General Cuomo’s team, and prior a federal prosecutor. Ms. Lacewell was also the architect of OpenNY, a state-of-the-art open data initiative. Since becoming Superintendent, she has championed economic justice, fighting for consumers, helping expand access to financial services, and supporting community institutions serve their residents.
